How can we make a model of knee joint that is fully movable and can flex (with simple household materials)?

How can we make a model of knee joint that is fully movable and can flex (with simple household materials)? My son is in an exercise science class and wishes to create a knee joint, can anyone help me?

The knee is a hinge joint.
Maybe you can go to the hardware store and get a hinge, attach it to the ends of two short boards or thick dowels, and tack on thick rubber bands for the ligaments? Attach a milk jug lid (or some other type of material that works with your design) between additional rubber bands for the patella.

Or...

Paper towel tubes? Use some strong paper to make a hinge between them. Use lighter rubber bands with this choice though, the cardboard tubes may bend and wreck your model.

Maybe there's something here for you?
