How common are knee injuries in soccer? What percentage of players (past age 14 playing organized soccer) get knee injuries (ligament sprain, rupture, tear, or meniscus injuries)?
Can most amateur and pro players go their whole career without knee problems? Are leg press and squats good exercises for avoiding injuries?

they are common, but stretching before and after practice and games helps you avoid injury. however the best way, i think, is common sense. in the heat of a game, keep your head, play intelligently, don't go in like a headless chicken, and try and anticipate potentially injury-threatening situations!

Knee injuries are very common in soccer. It is more common in women to have knee injuries because of the anatomy of the female knee. I'm not sure about the percentages but there are many athletes pro and amateur who have a made a full recovery after having a knee injury. In order to prevent injury you must strengthen the muscles around the knee such as the quadriceps, the hamstrings and the calf muscle. The leg press, squats, step ups, lunges, leg extensions and straight leg raises are just a few. Make sure to stretch before any physical activity. Be conscious of it but don't let it hold you back.
