Swollen knee?

Swollen knee? For nearly four days now my knee has been slightly swollen. The swelling is to the left (my left) bottom portion of my left knee cap. There is moderate pain (when I walk up/down stairs, bend with pressure, plie in dance, etc.) but when I'm just sitting it's more of a dull throbbing; not necessarily a pain. I had problems with my knees over the summer, but that went away and just began recurring after a fall in P.E. and the start of ballet after a one and a half year break.

What can I do to fix this? I've been R.I.C.E.-ing it every night while I do homework but it doesn't get better. I don't want tot go to the doctor, because they'll just tell me to go to the E.R., which is a pain in the behind. I was just there two years ago for tendonitis in my wrist.

Has anyone else has similar experiences with their knees? I'm only fourteen, and have never had any problems except over this past summer, and I've danced since I was four.

In middle school I started track, and I was doing long distance, about a day after a mile my knee swelled up and was hard to bend and slightly painful when I tryed bending it.
The doctor said it was a genetic disorder, once I stopped track it went away and hasn't been back yet.

It sounds like you have inflamed the cartilage in your knee. The best thing you can do is keep up with the ice, only don't put the ice on for more than 20 min at a time or you are making things worse. When you are resting put a pillow under it to give it some support. Try wrapping with an ace wrap for a while to also give it support when you are up and around. Rest it as much as possible. Try some white willow bark to help with the inflammation and pain. It's all natural and it really works good.

i had an acl tear 5 months ago... i would go to an orthepedic dr. - they wont tell you to go to the er... you might have to get an mri
i've found knees are precious and you dont want to find out later that you've injured it worse by not going to the dr. if you've injured it.
