Sorry you have to turn your heads to watch..... This individual has osteoarthritis in bilateral knees, being worse in the right knee.Early in the day until the evening this patient has a normal gait. Because of the condition, the pain is worse of an evening. From the video, which was taken in the evening, a slight limp is noted in her gait due to the pain from this condition. This gait is known as an antalgic gait. Eliminating pain and providing an assisted device may improve her gait. For pain management, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are recommended (whatever over the counter medicine they normally take), ice, E-stim, and US can be used. An assisted device such as a cane or walker would be suggested depending on the stability of the patient. As for this patient, she walks independently for 95% of time time and occasionally will rely on a cane when walking long distances for long periods of time or of an evening. She also relies on the cane for more support as pain becomes worse. Gentle stretching and strengthening of the lower extremities may also be beneficial for this person as well, however pain management should help to diminish the limp or abnormal gait.
