Diagnosing Knee irritation from running? Tendons or knees?

Diagnosing Knee irritation from running? Tendons or knees?I run about 3 miles at a time. 90% of the time after a mild workout at Ballys using weight machines. I believe that the 1/2 hour workout and a couple laps before running gets me plenty warmed up. Besides an occational ankle pain, I have noticed some sensitivity above each of my knees.

The sensitivity really doesn't feel like pain, but maybe an awareness. Is it possible that my leg lifts have improved my muscles enough for me to feel differently when standing? Could I have abused the tendon between the thigh muscle and the knee?

I feel like when I am standing, I need to lock my knees to avoid this sensation.

I stretch after running.

Any ideas?
