Do people who have torn ligaments in the knee ever walk again?I know someone who recently hurt her knee pretty bad and now she cant even walk. I suspect a torn ligament.
and by "not being able to walk" I mean people have lIterally been having to carry her everywhere.

A torn ACL is a somewhat common knee injury. It is a very easy fix for an orthopedic surgeon. I had my left knee done a few years ago and I'd say it is 99% of what it was before the injury.

You can walk again pretty soon after, but it can take months to fully recover.

Yes, they will be able to walk again. Surgical reconstruction of ligaments has become very advanced and can be done mostly arthoscopically. Athletes can return to sports as soon as 6 months post-op. Usually, before surgery, people, with torn ligaments, are walking with a brace. Some can even walk without it as ligament tears affect every one differently. I had a friend who had a torn ACL and torn mensicus and walked around and did karate for 2 years with occasional problems until she had a MRI to see what was wrong. Another person I knew who was a miracle case tore her ACL. Before surgery, she was doing physical therapy and was able to run 10 minutes on a treadmill there without her brace. Needless to say, most aren't like her. However, another friend of mine, like your friend, tore hers and couldn't really even get off the soccer field.
She will be fine :) It's going to take time and hard work, but she will get better
Good Luck
