Relieving knee pain? Knee strengthening exercises?

Relieving knee pain? Knee strengthening exercises?I work at a factory where I lift heavy boxes off shelves then turn around and put it on a skid. Eventually my knees start hurting, and start making crackling noises. What can I do to stop this, and what exercises are out there that help strengthen the knee area? thanks
