home remedies for knee pain?

home remedies for knee pain?My husband is 49 years old and has been having terrible knee pain. He went to the ER last week and an x-ray was done. The x-ray showed his knee joint was bone on bone and was referred to an orthopedic. Does anyone know of any home remedies that might help until he can see an ortho?

Listen to the pain message and try not to do anything that aggravates the pain. If you have arthritis, make sure you are taking your medication as directed. Otherwise, acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, or naporxen may be used to ease pain.
If you have or using a cane can help; usually, the cane is best carried in the hand on the same side as the painful knee.
Do not use a pillow under the knee at night or at any other time. This can make the knee stiffen so that it cannot be straightened out.
Avoid exercises or activities that simulate deep knee bends because they place too much stress on the knee..Knee problems can develop from the feet, so proper shoes can help. See your doctor if pain remains after six weeks of home treatment. And good luck.

cortizone works for some, but it did not for me, i had one knee replaced and another in a few months, just like myself when it gets down to bone on bone most meds works like jelly beans... find a good pair of shoes, funny how i had luck with a simple pair of crocs, at least it allows me to stand in one place longer... a stationery bike might help as well, it help develop better the lower front thigh, that can take some stress off of the joint ( the cane would be used on the opposite side of the bad leg)
