I am currently suffering from knee pain and swelling. Can this be caused from driving my car?Since I started driving my Toyota Corolla, I have been having pain in my right knee. It started light and has progressed to swelling on the back of my right knee and pain when I walk. I know it began when I started driving my car. Any idea why and what I should do? Has anyone else had this problem with this particular car or any car for that matter? It has become very annoying especially because in my line of work, there is no room for these types of injuries. Any help would be great...thank you.

I guess anything is possible, But it sounds like arthritis to me

The rule to driving, your knee must not be above your hip while sitting in the car, if that makes sense. I do not know about this car, but worth sitting in it just to see if your knees are above your hip joints?

That's a great question. I think overuse of the knee can cause the symptoms you are talking about. I suppose the position of your car seat might have something to do with it. I'd check with your doctor. They have various medications which relieve the pain. They are non steroid. Suparts is one of the shots given in a series of five shots. Another one given in a series of three shots with more side effects. It is like an artificial lubrication of the knee. It usually is arthritis or wearing down of the knee joint that causes the actual pain and it is severe. The injections help but if it is caused by over use you have to change the position you are driving in. Sometimes physical therapy is effective as well and can show you tricks on how to reposition your car seat. My advice is to check especially with an orthopedist or family practice physician who can check this out for sure. You can't buy a new car easily in this economy.
I have had a similar experience from having to keep my knees in a certain position to support equipment over a period of time. Both the injections and PT helped a lot. The injections may have to be repeated periodically if it is a wearing away of the knee cap. Exercises also help as does icing the knee. Bottom line the pain has to be dealt with and then the cause found and changes in your position. Good luck. It hurts like crazy. Don't let it go on too long. It takes awhile to fix and gets worse as you try to ignore that really bad pain. Good luck again
