Inner knee pain. When I increase my mileage too quicky my inner knee hurts.?When I increase my weekly mileage too quickly, or when I started fartlek training and a long run once a week my inner knee hurts. What is the cause of this? I ice it after my run and it's fine. I have two pairs of good quality shoes, one brand new and one with 200 miles on them. It's the inner side of the knee and feels like a strained tendon possibly. I can lessen the pain by changing my stride and it's less painful when running uphill. After a few weeks of fartleks and long runs I assume my body will adjust and the pain should subside. When I add interval workouts it will probably return again. I used to run 15 years ago and have been back into running for a year. Thanks in advance for the response.

I always answer people' knee questions on here as I just had my 13th surgery so I am a seasoned knee injury veteran. And I will tell you what I tell everyone else. See an orthopedic (bone and joint) doctor. He/she will discuss your symptoms with you and take xrays and an mri scan. The xrays will probably show nothing, but the mri will give you your answers. The knee is a very complicated joint with 4 main ligaments and tons of cartilage including the meniscus. People on yahoo answers will give you their best guess and say "I had the same thing!" but you will never know without getting images of your knee taken. I am very knowledgeable on the subject, but I wouldn't begin to tell you what is going on without looking at images of your knee. So please, see a doctor and get it checked out....the earlier the better....you do not want to be like me and have 13 surgeries and huge scars...trust me. (As an FYI.. my knee pain started where you are describing and mine was cartilage damage.) Also, you sound like an avid runner who loves the sport very much, but it is so harsh on the knees. Try something more low impact while you are waiting for a doctor's appointment (walking, swimming, rollerblading). Good luck to you.
