What can i do about my sharp knee pain? It hurts like right on top of my knee cap when i jump and land...?

Both knees hurt. I am 16. Are there any braces or sleeves that will help this? Also what about pain reliever pills or some sort of bengay.

Any information would help.

ONce again it hurts when i jump and when i land on impact its a sharp pain right on top of both knee caps. It prevents me from jumping as high and it kills to jump if i dont warm up.

Just about any sporting goods store should have braces for your knees. However, I would definitely go see an orthopedic doctor if you can. You are still young and knee injuries are no good. If you do anything serious to your knee, you may never be the same. In the mean time, motrin (read the bottle, be responsible) and ice usually do the trick.

You probably have jumpers knee, otherwise known as Patellar Tendonitis. Definitely go see a doctor or physical therapist but in the meantime you can go to a store and buy a strap that you put on your knee. Here is a link to what one looks like. Hope this helps.

Likely this is due to growing pains, but if you are feeling pain, you need to lay off playing for a day or two until you can see a doctor or trainer about this. It is likely nothing, but there is no use taking a risk at 16. The last thing you want is to play through pain that might be an injury at 16 and hurt it more and need surgery at 18. Like I say, probably normal (my knees hurt during growth spurts), but no need to take unecessary chances.

Like GITD said, you definitely have Patellar Tendonitis, i have it too (and had to redshirt my last year at college because of it). Focus on stretching mainly calf's, Hamstrings, Quads and glutes. Try to stretch two or three times a day. It will take a while to see a change (2 or 3 weeks) but with increased flexibility there will be less pressure on your knees. Also, I wear full leg compression tights, basically to keep my knees warm while playing, you may try that. hope they feel better, good luck.
