Why does the recovery and repair of a torn knee cartilage take a long time?A person has severely injured his knee during a soccer practice. he had a torn knee cartilage and expect that recovery and repair will take a long time. Why?

Cartilage has no blood supply for healing, so surgery is really the only option.

Hey, I tore my cartilage in my left knee about 3 years ago and still cant play football properly now. Its because cartilage doesn't regrow so when I tore mine I had an operation to shave it and because I had less cartilage after the opt I was weaker and it tore again but I've refused more surgery because I don't want to end up with no cartilage and have bone on bone. I had a MRI scan and was advised not to do any impact exercise so Ive taken up cycling. Obviously it all depends on the size of the tear etc etc how quick they get surgery and if its successful. Theres no definite answer to give but it can be a serious injury. I hope they are OK!
