how do you get hyperextension in the knee or ankle?i am learning massage and a bolster needs to be placed under ankle to prevent hyperextension in the knee and ankle..can anyone explain

If a part of the body is overstretched, then one speaks of a hyper-extension.The knee in meant to extend but only to a certain point beyond that point could cause injuries and damage to muscles ,tendons and ligaments .Concerning the knee the lower part of the leg is not meant to bend upward where you foot could touch you inner thigh without hip rotation;it is meant to bend backward toward your buttocks.
