How long did you have to avoid driving after meniscus tear surgery?I have a meniscus tear (right knee) and am considering surgery. How long will it be before I can drive my car? I will most likely have a menisectomy not a repair. The orthopedist said 6 weeks!!! Was this your experience?

Well all the docs are different. I work in rehab and I have had patients drive themselves to therapy because they don't have anyone else to bring them. Which knee is it. There is a major difference between just cleaning it out and repairing it. Usually, unless you are younger and very athletic, they will just clean it out. A repair will have you more limited, usually non weight bearing for 4 to 6 weeks depending on the doc. Just make sure you know ahead of time when you will start rehab. Don't sleep with anything propped under your knee keeping it bent or else it will be hard and discomforting to get it straight. Depending on your previous condition, shouldn't be too bad. Good luck.
