How often should I do rehab exercises for my "runner's knee?"?

How often should I do rehab exercises for my "runner's knee?"?I am doing a walk/run program, working up my endurance and mileage. I got classic "runner's knee," poor alignment of my kneecap, and my doc gave me rehab exercises to do. I've been doing them religiously every day and they have really worked. I'd like to cut back either on the number of days a week I do them or on the number of reps, because they take almost 45 minutes to do and I just don't have the time. But I don't want a recurrence. Any thoughts on how often I need to work on keeping those thigh muscles strong now that the initial problem has faded?

usually 3-5 days a week would be ok, but talk to your doctor and find out what he says
