KNee Problems?I have been having this problem lately... It started about a year and a half ago.. I was at work standing there and all of a sudden my knees got very very hot (to touch) you can actually feel the heat coming off of them. When I lifted my pant leg they were beat red. There isn't really any pain accompanied by it either. It hadn't happen in a while since then..but then recently I got out of the shower and it started doing it again and its been doing it ever since. ANY idea what this is? I'm only 21 years old. excellent health.

A red, hot painful knee: Gout, which affects men much more commonly than women, usually arises from an inborn error of metabolism that results in an excess of uric acid in the blood. But anything that elevates blood uric acid can cause gout, including the use of diuretics such as furosemide ( Lasix), alcohol, leukemia and other bone-marrow malignancies, and-for reasons we don't fully understand trauma and surgery.
The treatment of acute gout is relatively simple. Adequate doses of over-the -counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs ( NSAIDs) such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or naproxen ( Aleve) can work near-miraculous results within 24 hours but should be continued for about five days.
At any rate, see your healthcare provider as soon as possible and good luck.
