I asked my doctor to give me some kind of pain control medication until I am diagnosed for joint pain.?I begged my doctor for it. She refer me to rheumatologists and she told me until I see a rheumatologists and for a temporary pain relief, she can write me a prescription for a **Amitriptylene** medications. I have been taking this medication for only 5 days. It gives me dry mouth and high cravings for food. 2 hours after I took this tablet, I crave for food really bad. For the last 6 months I am on a strict diet ( counting calories) to loose weight for my knee joint. These last 5 days I have been eating like crazy. I can tell that soon after taking the medication I crave for food and I couldnt stop eating. I am really worried about my weight. Should I stop taking this medication and lie to my doctor that I have been taking this medication and work good? or, should I just tell her that I stop taking medication due to cravings? I know 5 days is too short to determine. But I know for sure that this tablet is increasing my cravings. I am positive about it. Please give me some positive suggestion.

Stay on the medication and be sure to take it with a full glass of water. And whenever you start to crave something to eat, drink another full glass of water and wait 3 minutes. Your craving will go away if you can just hold out for those three minutes (which will pass by quickly as you are drinking you glass of water). Between the wait (which has been proven) and the water to fill you up, you will not consume the over abundance of calories. After a couple of days doing this, it will become easier and easier to just reach for that glass of water and resist the craving and you will probably find that in a few days, your cravings will start to dissipate. So it you can just give it 3 or 4 days you shouldn't have problems with the cravings anymore.

quit taking this medication and tell your doctor why, if you are already having joint problems due to over weight this is not gong to help. I had this experience and ate sweet stuff like crazy and gained al ot of weight which just added to the problem. better things to so are water exercise or recumbent bike . get a physio consult. there are other methods of pain management that do not involve taking this medication.
