VICODIN addiction. How do I determine whether or not someone has it?My friend takes vicodin for a chronic knee ailment. I thought nothing of it, his knee has been troubling him for years. The other day I noticed his hand shaking uncontrollably. He used to kickbox and box, I chalked it up to the damage he's done to his knuckles and wrist over the years. But now I'm wondering if he's addicted. What do I look for to make a better determination? How do I better educate myself here?

I really doubt the hand shaking you saw was related to a Vicodin addiction. Even if you are dependant on a pain killer, you don't normally have withdrawl symptoms like that. (See the website below)
I used to take Hydrocodone (same thing) for my back and shoulder. The doctor actually told me my shoulder would require pain medication for the rest of my life. However, one day I realized I was taking it more to get to sleep than for pain, so I just quit. I had been using it for years, but I didn't have any significant withdrawl symptoms.
Here is a suggestion for your friend: start taking Glucosamine Chondroitin for the possible damage he has to his joints. This stuff is amazing. I get the triple strength, and it made it possible for me to completely stop taking pain meds for my shoulder. In fact, my shoulder seems like it "healed" due to the Glucosamine Chondroitin, even though my problem is supposed to be permanent. However, I almost never even have a twinge of pain anymore.

His hand shaking could be due to detox, is he sweating more, have nausea, vomiting, tired? it could mean that he hasn't taken any in a while. It's possible after a long period of use he has become addicted to it, especially for chronic pain.

i dont think the shaking is b/c of the vicodin. i take vicodin all the time and i dont shake. i also have problems with my knees. maybe he has parkinsons or something.
