Knee Disorders: What is the best treatment for sore knees?

What is the best treatment for sore knees?Don't answer "stay off them" because that is not an option for me.

I have had a "bad knee" since middle school, but x-rays and everything find nothing wrong. I've been told it's probably arthritis. What works best for me when it hurts is to take pain meds, and use a heating pad on it, or take a hot bath. Hope your knees start feeling better!
