Medial Knee Pain? After walking I get medial (inside) left knee pain, it feels very tight and restrictive but after walking a few more miles it eases up and just barely hurts. What are some possibilities?
I am 25 and walking, jogging to lose weight as I am 239lbs.
6' tall.
I also get loud and soft pops from this knee without any pain at all. If I stand straight and then sit down on my knees( with my knees, shins, and toes) touching the floor when I rise this knee will pop pretty loudly at times.
Thanks.

Of course weight is an issue but that's a catch 22, your doing something about that. The other possibilities could be that your knees are in varus (knee-knocked). People who are bow-legged (valgus) tend to feel the same kind of pain on the outside of their knee. What causes it is because your in varus, the medial part of the femur & tibia actually start touching each other when you walk (inpingment). This will cause irratation, swelling, pain, etc. High arch type running shoes could help, especially the name brands... nike, asics, etc. The other possibility is that you are walking on an uneven surface. Road walking will casue this. They are sloped so that rain drains off the sides of the road and doesn't build up in the middle. Try walking the other way or go to a track. I'm not sure if there is such a thing as stretching excersises specefically designed for someone who is in varus, but I'd check and if there are do those. The popping and cracking is a combonation of air & fluid pockets in the back of your knee...it has to go somewhere and that's the place it ususally sits in. Other possibilities is that tendons/soft tissues in your knee could be slipping back & forth over a prominent boney structure, that would make it pop too. The abnormal tightness is probably muscle and tendon irratation and maybe spasms. Ice, naproxen, aspirin should help.
