what could cause pain in the knee when leaning on it?What kinds of medicines or what could be done to lessen the pain? Could pain in the knee be associated with age?
It seems to happen when going up and down stairs.

That's not easy to answer, since there are many, many knee conditions that can cause pain. What medicine you take will depend on what kind of problem it is. It could stay the same, or it could get worse. It could be arthritis, or it could be something else.

Common medications are straight painkillers. Anti-inflammatories like ibuprofen will help reduce unseen swelling which may be causing the pain. But you will have to consult an orthopedist if you want a permanent solution.
