knee has a cap and is a weight bearing joint. elbow is not.

the elbow is connected to the... shou-lder

the shoulder is connected to the...rib-cage

the ribcage is connected to the...spi-ine

the spine is connected to the....hii-ip

the hip is connected to the....leg bone

the leg bone is connected to the kne-ee

so there you go

In reality im not really sure. so maybe someone else can better answer it then me. but i assume they are both socket style joints although the elbows seem to have a higher articulation rate then the knee.
