torn acl in knee

How do you tell the difference between a torn ACL and a hyperextended knee?I can't bend my knee past a 90 degree angle and there's fluid in it; it's not swollen too bad though. I can still walk but my calf muscles are tight. How can I tell if it's a torn ACL or a hyperextended knee??
Any tips to make my knee heal faster?

The laxity should be side to side if it's a torn ACL...not that I know anything...but if it's swollen, fluid filled and you can't get it past a 90 degree angle, I'd say you're catching something, ACL/MCL take anti-inflammatories, ice it, and relax. Every so often give a bit of a straighten to see if your extension improves. You didn't mention pain.

Actually the laxity would be anterior-posterior (MCL and LCL injuries are "side to side" laxity). The best way is to get it checked out by a doctor or athletic trainer. There are special tests that can be performed, however, the gold-standard is the MRI. In the meantime, keep ice on it, keep it elevated, and take some NSAIDS as needed, but definitely get it checked out! Good luck!

A torn ACL will have amazing pain with it and your most likely would not be able to straiten your leg. I would see a doc if it doesnt help. Also, there is a Chinese ointment for things like this. It is name Dit Da Dow (Iron hit wine)if you have a chinese pharmacy near you they will have it if not see a doctor.
