Knee pain? Swollen and stiff. ?My knee has been swollen for months. It's extremely stiff in the morning but gets better throughout the day. I have trouble squatting and it hurts putting weight on it. In may, I started doing aerobics and I think I must have hurt it. What should I do? Do you think it's okay to still take brisk walks every day ( only for 30 min)
I'm female, 21, healthy--5'6 ...126 lbs.

If you're suffering from knee pain, you're not alone. Almost one in three Americans older than age 45 reports some type of knee pain, and it's a common reason that people visit their doctors or the emergency room.
Knee pain may be the result of an injury, such as a ruptured ligament or torn cartilage. Or, certain medical conditions, including arthritis, gout and infection, may be at the root of your knee pain.
Many relatively minor instances of knee pain respond well to self-care measures. More-serious injuries, such as a ruptured ligament or tendon, may require surgical repair.
Although every knee problem can't be prevented — especially if you're active — you can take certain steps to reduce the risk of injury or disease.
You need to put ice on it and after having elevated for 6 hours with ice go to a doctor and see if you have arthritis or a break or sprain.

Your doctor (or a walk-in clinic if you don't have a family doctor) should have a look at your knee. There is no way it should be swollen, stiff and painful for that long.
I have a bone tumour in my knee, so I have some idea what you're feeling. I particularly like "Dr. Scott's Knee Book" for information.
