The muscle just below the back of my knee is sore. Is this the top of my calf muscle?I have been walking/running stairs. Just below the back of knee is extremely sore. I have never had this area sore before. Is this normal? Is this the top of my calf muscle?

you have strained it, over worked it. leave the running and stairs for a day and relax the muscle. massage and stretch. sit flat on the floor legs extended out in front and flex the foot up towards you hold for 10 seconds then relax. do this several times then massage. apply some deep heat or similar

I'm not sure what muscle it is. Unless you have pulled or injured the area, I would suggest from my own 'fixes' that magnesium could relax the contraction. A liquid such as mineral water or different form of combined magnesium, potassium, calcium, etc. would be beneficial. results could happen within minutes or a very short time. Wish you the best.

Hi Susan!
You appear to be pretty smart! Based on your exercises and location of soreness, I would say that it is probably your calf muscle. I would stretch it before and after workouts to loosen it up. Also, remember to warm up the muscle before vigorous exercise.
I believe this answers your question, but if not, you may email me.
Good luck on your diet and fitness goals!
