pain, stiffness, and muscle spasms in knee?

pain, stiffness, and muscle spasms in knee?Hello,
I am 17 years old and tend to get these really bad knee pains that spread to my lower calf and not only is really painful, but is also extremely hard to walk and nearly impossible to extend my knee the entire way when it happens. My knee muscle also spasms sometimes too when this happens. Usually only Advil will make the pain go completely away and even after that, its still sore for an hour or two. I only get this in one leg at a time, and its usually my left leg.

Is this just normal, or could be caused by something? I'm not overweight and I get a decent amount of excercise, but do tend to notice it happens more often if I exercise more often than usual. But then again, sometimes it will happen even if I haven't been excercising alot. Anybody have ANY clue what this might be, whether or not I should see a doctor about it, and what I should do?
Your answer is appreciated. thank you.

Sounds painful... the fact that it is so stiff makes me think something is going on like some type of arthritis or displacement in the knee.....

something might be getting caught up or it's a tendon issue leading to the spams.... im not sure....

I think you should go to the doctor so they can check it out. It might be something that needs a little physical therapy to repair or something....

Sometimes people inherent bad knees and you get problems young. The fact that you respond well to Advil and have stiffness sounds like some sort of arthritis or tendon/cartilage type issue happening...

good fortune
