what could be the cause of my chronic knee pain?

what could be the cause of my chronic knee pain?I was in Taiwan last year walking and my knee started hurting. Since then it has not gotten better but worse. It is extremely stiff and achy especially when I wake up in the morning. Now my other knee has started with the same symptoms. I'm only 32, but very active. What could be the cause?

Knee pain like that is usually because the muscle/tendon on the kneecap has shortened itself up as they can do, and it is making your kneecap ride higher up on your knee and pulling it into the knee as well. Once you release the muscle/tendon you should have your problem taken care of. Here is how to release them:
Kneecap: (Use a chair that has no cross members on it.)
While sitting start with your leg out in front of you extended out to a comfortable length. Wrap your hands around it so you leave a open working area. Place your thumbs about two inches behind your knee and press into the top middle of your leg hard and hold. Relax. After 30 seconds, slowly slide that leg back until it is pulled up under the chair as far as you can make it go. Then release the pressure but hold your leg there for one minute longer.
It is important to keep a steady pressure on especially when you do the bending part or it won't work. If that happens give it another try.

There can be several probabilities; degeneration, arthritic changes, trauma, aama condition etc. The details are not enough to diagnose and to suggest any treatment. Pl send me more details and investigation reports, if any, such as x-ray etc. For detailed discussion and more suggestions, you can email me on info@ayulink.com.

It sounds like you have an imbalance in your pelvis. A rotated pelvis causes one leg to be longer than the other and to make up for it the long leg will rotate out. Since the knee joint is a simple hinge joint, and alteration in its normal line of motion will cause irritation and eventual deterioration. The hip is a ball joint and can move in many different planes and the ankle is a saddle joint which it able to go up and down as well as side to side. Trapped in between these two joints is the knee which only moves one way.
You didn't mention any recent trauma to the knee so I am assuming this is a condition that has been developing over time and has finally reached the point of pain. It is in our thirties when the chickens come home to roast as far as biomechanical dysfunctions go.
I have an article on my office's website that explains the pelvic rotation, its causes and symptoms. If it applies to you try locating a Chiropractor or Therapist and get yourself balanced out.
