Most knee pain is caused by the tendon shortening up for the kneecap. That pulls the kneecap up on and into the knee causing it to bind up instead of gliding over the knee. that is where the pain comes from. The muscles usually shorten their tendons when there is trauma present, the falling on them, kneeling on them or even a twist on one from just turning your body. Here is how you can release that tendon yourself:
Kneecaps:
Do while sitting on a chair with no front cross braces.
While sitting have your leg resting in a stretched mode. Place both your thumbs, side by side, about 2 inches behind the kneecap and press down into your leg and then redirect the pressure a little towards the kneecap. After 30 seconds, slowly slide your foot back and under your chair as far as it will go, release the pressure but hold your foot there for another 30 seconds.
the important part is the pressure on the leg. If you don't keep enough on it the whole time this won't work. Just try it again if that happens.
