i just ran today for the first time and the tissue right below my knee cap is sore, should i stop running?I can usually just run a mile after a long break from running and get back into it but this time my knees started hurting, wat do i do?

If you're still young, you need to warm up and stretch before you run, then slow down and stretch when you finish.

you shouldnt stop running completely

stretch mildly every now and then and when it comes to the point you have to run, dont give it your all because you might strain a muscle

speed walk, or slowly jog

dont ever do yourself!

cheers!

I used to have the same problem. It is always good to stretch and loosen up before you run. A few squats and stretching the arch of your foot usually helps. The older you get the more stretching needed. If you haven't run in a while it is better to start of jogging. Muscles lose their strength and flexibility very quickly. Check your shoes. Surprising how many people don't do that and injure themselves. Our body changes with age.

that happened to me too, I iced it and stretched it. Take a couple days off and then go for a slow easy run (less than a mile) to stretch ur legs outs. Oh yea and ibuprofen helps reduce the inflammation if there is any, so take some of that.

You should also work out you thighs and hamstrings because if your muscles are weak there then it puts strain on the knee.....try running on a dirt track or trail as opposed to cement or asphalt. If your only option is cement vs asphalt, run on the asphalt.

Could be a form issue, but it sounds like you've run before and it's simply coming back too hard from the get-go.

I'd be more patient to ease back into things and not push yourself. In the meantime, it's time to ice.

Try at least a few walking or very light jogging sessions before you return to running. Also confirm that you're using decent shoes that haven't perhaps gone flat.
