Cortisone injection has made knee pain worse?Six weeks ago I had a cortisone injection in my knee to treat bursitis.. Worked like a charm, pain was gone for a month or more. Got a second injection yesterday, and now I can't even walk and the pain is very bad - worse than before the shot. Has anyone had a similar experience? Do you think the injection went wrong somehow and should I go to the ER? My Dr. won't be back till Monday and I am on crutches for now. Thanks
- Mr. B
Cortisone injections are like that from what I hear. My doctor is thinking about putting one in my back, but I'm afraid to do so because of how hit and miss the procedure is. I've read on WebMD that Cortisone injections can sometimes cause more pain than relief, such as in your case. That being said I don't think you need to go to the ER, but you may want to contact your doctor as soon as possible to let him know what is going on. Unfortunately you may need to take opioid pain medications to deal with the pain until the shot wears off.

Yes, I've had injections. All of them hurt like h*** for a the first few days. Try icing the area up to 20 minutes at a time every hour. If you're still in pain on Monday call your doc.

I sympathize with you. I had a cortisone shot into my hip and it hurt more afterwards than it ever did before. I kept an ice pack on my hip whenever I could.
Never again!
