What causes knee pain when running on the treadmill?Today I noticed that when I was running on my treadmill...my knees were beginning to hurt. Does this mean I am not wearing the proper shoes?

Running and jogging can effect the knee joints detrimentally. Get it checked out. Try power walking instead.

It's very likely that your problem is shoes. Arch support is the foundation of good skeletal health! Make sure your feet are well supported. If you run a lot, you need new shoes about every three months or so. Also, you might need orthotic insoles. And be sure to stretch before and after, all the major muscle groups in your body.

When you're running on the treadmill (or ANYWHERE for that matter) you've got to realize that you're pounding ALL of your body weight down onto the track/pavement...thats XXX of your weight, peing pushed down on your knees, who are having to support that...Of course it's hurting them!
If the pain continues after you've stopped your workout, have them checked out by a doctor, to see if you've torn/ruined something, and next time, take it easy on your knees!

Hey hi, It could be the shoes or the tread mill, or it could be you're working yourself too much. I 've never ran on a tread before so I don't know for sure, I'm just thinking about running in general. Don't know if this helped you or not Bella, I hope so thou.

If you had to ask if you were wearing the proper shoes, then that means you must feel they are not the proper shoes. Get some good shoes. Go to a running store. Not one of those stores at the mall, but a real running shoe store. If the problem happens again, stop. Rest and ice. Go back after a couple of days and try again. These kind off aches and pains happen when you start running. Give you body a chance to strengthen those muscles. If the problem occurs after that, then see a doctor. Don't injure yourself.
