Inner Knee pain caused by running.?

Inner Knee pain caused by running.?I run about 35-40 km's a week. Normally on Saturday are my heavy duty runs, long distance hills training. Im really young 20 year old female, and I am a healthy one too. I started to get pain in my inner right side of my knee for about three weeks now. First was just a minor ache and now I think it has gotten a bit worse. I only get pain in the inner side of the knee, not behind or the other side. The other knee does not hurt at all. The pain consist when i either lean or lift my right leg in the right direction. It feels like a really painful tooth ache. I have tried to wear a knee brace, which only helps within a few miles and then the pain comes back, forcing me to walk.(when running) I don't know if I pull one of my tendons around my knee? Should i go to the doctor? I love running and I don't want to quit. I have been putting ice and heat on my knee, seems to help with the swelling. Once i feel better and run again, it comes back even worse. I probably don't wait long enough for it to fully heal. If you have any feedback, please response. I am in dying need of some answers:)

Thank you,

D

I have had knee problems as well during my running career. I have used a technique i called the "bicycle", to help rid of the pain. Lie on your back on a flat surface. next, put your legs up in the air so your body forms a 90 degree angle. then pump your legs in the air like your riding a bike. do this for about 10 minutes every night and your knees should start to gain more muscle, thus supporting the rest of your legs. note that when doing the bicycle you should feel a strong burn in your knees. this means that your working them hard and this is good.

hope this helps from a fellow runner.

If you're knee pain is really as bad as it sounds, it's always a good idea to see your doctor to get it checked out. When I saw my doc, she advised I stop running hills and strengthen my thigh muscles.

You may be experiencing "runner's knee" - you can search that term and you will come up with all kinds of information. I began getting knee pain (only in one knee) once I started training for a race, which I clearly started too much too soon. I had to stop running for a while, iced it a lot, and used a knee brace during activities (like hiking, walking). If you're still in pain after you've been resting for a few weeks, you probably need more healing time and you need to get back into running more slowly.

Also, if you haven't had a shoe fitting, I suggest you have one and buy shoes (with enough shock absorption/padding) accordingly.

...ultimately, being on the safe side and seeing a doc is a good idea.
