Knee Disorders: Can your cruciate knee ligament repair itself?

Can your cruciate knee ligament repair itself?I did something to my cruciate knee ligament on Tuesday 23th March , and I am scheduled for an MRI on Monday 29th March. What I want to know is can it heal itself before the scan? Or at least be not as bad as before?

- Mike
it depends what happened. cruciate knee ligament is the ACL? if I remember correctly. and if it got torn completely then no, you will have to get surgery and even then it will never be the same. Although if you torn it partially they can stitch it up and it should be back to normal in a few months. Also, if you did tear it all the way, it will take a long time to heal..i tore my ACL about 9 months ago and im still in the healing process..but you might have pulled it or something. But to answer the question it just all depends how bad it is.

McLooner, even if the tear was less than 25%, a grade I, it would take longer than 1 week to heal. So get the scan and find out how much of a tear you have. If it is a tear greater than 50% or total tear get the surgical repair. This ligament keeps the femur, the thigh bone, on the tibia. When it is torn the meniscus and then the cartilage start to become eroded. That is not a good thing so get it checked out and then follow what the orthopedist tells you.
