Knee Disorders: Why does my knee hurt really bad at times?

Why does my knee hurt really bad at times?Bad knees run in my dad's side of the family.. At random times my right knee hurts so bad I can barely walk. 20 minutes later it feels just fine. Any ideas on what it could be?

A lot of knee pains happen when the muscle for the kneecap tightens up it's tendon and pulls the kneecap up on and into the knee making it hard and painful to bend your knee. If that sounds like what you go through you are fairly lucky that yours releases that way, most don't. When there has been pain in the knee area the muscles around it react by tightening up their tendons. Once tightened they usually need to be released and you can do this to yours in trying to keep it from happening again. Here is how to release the tendon for the muscle of your kneecap:
Kneecaps:
Do while sitting on a chair with no front cross braces between the legs.
While sitting have your leg resting in a stretched position. Place both your thumbs, side by side, about 2 inches behind the kneecap and press down into your leg hard and then redirect the pressure a little towards the kneecap. After 30 seconds, slowly slide your foot back and under your chair as far as it will go, release the pressure but hold your foot there for another 30 seconds.
The important part of this is the pressure on the leg, if there isn't enough there this won't take. If that happens give it another try right away.
