Three days ago I had the last of the 5 supartz shots for knee joint pain. I haven't received relief like Ithought I would. I have constant pain with interverals of sharp pains in the shin. I'm unable to be on my feet for more than 15 minutes at a time because of the pain. The orthopedic surgeron says I'll need knee replacement surgery some day but that I'm too young for it now. I'm 43. But I'm in constant pain. Feel like I'm losing out on life because I'm unable to do things I'd like to do. I also have MS but it's in remission.

Do you have osteoarthritis? It can sometimes take up to 3 weeks for those injections to work fully. You are not too young for a replacement. Yes, you are young and doctors try to put you off for as long as possible, but you are not too young. I am 26 and at the point where there are no other options for me except a TKR. Think of it this way... would you rather be happy and active and healthy and pain free now at this stage of your life or when you are 90 and old and slow anyhow? If I have to be in a wheelchair even when I am your age (no offense) I will be glad that the prime of my life was spent as painfree and as active as possible. I urge you to seek other opinions if the injections don't help. Also look into synvisc. (www.synvisc.com) for injections. Good luck. I feel your pain.

Supartz and Synvisc are more or less the same as temporizing treatments for OA. If the doctor says you are too young for the replacement, then he is right. The one who says the contrary obviously hasn't seen the results of TKRs gone wrong. Trust your surgeon. He knows what's best for you.
