Like he said, partially torn, not fully.
It's like a rubberband that has been cut just halfway through. It is still intact, just can't support a full resistance.
I had this happen, and was fine for 5 or 6 years. Walked, ran, played softball, etc. Yeah, it hurt once in a while, especially in winter. Then, one day, I swept my foot sideways to get a scuff off the tile floor. SNAP!!! There it went. Had to have surgery.

Probably, if the tear in the meniscus, the knee's shock absorbing cartilage, doesn't heal on its own. To facilitate healing, treat your knee with an anti-inflammatory drug such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin). If that doesn't ease the discomfort, it's generally better not to wait for the pain and the tear to get worse before turning to surgery. Studies have found that repairing such tears when they're still small leads to better postsurgical recovery and lowers the risk of further joint problems or osteoarthritis. And good luck.

it will only get worse...get the surgery...ive had it twice..no biggy..only thing is is that it takes out some of your cartliage....which in the future could have arthritis settle in so take care of your knees...oh and the md told me to go to physical therapy...they made it worse...just walk on it..after the surgery and take a towel or sheet and put your leg up as best you can and place towel on your feet and tug ,,,this stretches our the muscles and builds strength...good luck....oh can do anything for 4-6 weeks after
