Im having problems with knee pain when im cycling?

Im having problems with knee pain when im cycling? When i've been out on my road bike for long rides (50+ miles) i get a very specific pain on the inside of my left knee cap. im using shimano spd pedals and cleats how can i eliminate this?

Knee pain is usually caused by pushing too big of a gear and/or an improperly adjusted seat.

Try to keep your cadence at about 85 or so rpm while spinning a smaller gear. Your seat should be adjusted so that when your pedal is at the bottom of the stroke, your knee is just slightly bent. Head over to your local bike shop and help them get you properly fitted. Some bike shops may charge for a fitting, but it's worth it.

The only thing that I can think of is the position of the seat or the cleat on your shoe. This site may help.

A)reposition your cleats in a more comfortable way.
B)spin easy gears fast
C)research the kind of diet that promotes good joint health
D)ask your doctor

Common causes of knee pain are:

Saddle too low (or high, but usually its too low)
Pedalling in to high a gear

Keep your cadence around 90, and on longer rides, dont hammer early in the ride...keep it steady, eddie.

In addition to these good suggestions, I highly recommend Speedplay pedals. I had the same issue several years ago and found that swapping from SPD to Speedplay helped a lot. They allow your leg and knee to follow its natural path and not force the knee in an awkward manner.
The other thing to do is to keep the knee warm. Cold knees are painful knees. So wear a knee warmer at least to start.
