Why do I still have knee pain and swelling 4 weeks AFTER arthroscopic medial partial menisectomy?female, age 32, still have significant (primarily posterior) knee pain 4 weeks after surgery

It will take time for the swelling to go down, as well as for the pain to subside. You're lucky. Sounds like you've still got some of your cartilege. Long story short - I tore my lateral meniscus last year (right knee). My knee locked up on me, couldn't straighten my leg. Only way to unstraighten it was surgery The doctor discovered that my lateral meniscus was torn so badly he had to cut most of it out. I've got only a shred a meniscus left there.

if your surgeon cannot answer this question, get a 2nd opinion.

Sorry about your pain. My husband had no cartilage but went to a practitioner of natural medicine for a visit.
After taking DLPA (an amino acid) 15 minutes before a meal and one capsule of Tri-Flex from GNC he is starting to grow new cartilage (left knee) after 10 weeks. His pain was gone from day one, however.
Hi,I did the following:
Active Wrap Knee Ice Wrap - Reduces Knee Swelling
www.icewraps.net Active Wrap Knee Ice Wrap - Reduces Knee Swelling These Ice Wraps and Cold Packs are the perfect cold therapy to reduce swelling and alleviate the pain from pulls, strains, sprains and inflamation injuries. The ice wraps are reuseable by taking the ice packs in and out of the freezer. Not only does the ice soothe inflamation, but the wraps provide a certain degree of compression as well.
