Why does my knee hurt when I bend it?

Why does my knee hurt when I bend it?When I bend my knee to a certain point, it begins to hurt really bad. I can apply pressure on the knee but it hurts a little bit. There is no certain tendon that has been torn or strained. I do not know why it hurts. It's been hurting for a month, and is starting to really scare me since I'm an athlete. I've been resting it and icing it, but still no signs of it getting better. Please someone help me know when my knee will get better. Thanks!

The muscle for your kneecap has tightened up pulling your kneecap up on and into your knee making it hard and painful to bend your knees. You have to release that tendon to get rid of the pain. You shouldn't ice a muscle that is already shortened up for it will make more pain not help the pain. Here is how to release the kneecap:
Kneecaps:
Do while sitting on a chair with no front cross braces between the legs.
While sitting have your leg resting in a stretched position. Place both your thumbs, side by side, about 2 inches behind the kneecap and press down into your leg hard and then redirect the pressure a little towards the kneecap. After 30 seconds, slowly slide your foot back and under your chair as far as it will go, release the pressure but hold your foot there for another 30 seconds
For best results relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
