After injuring my knee will I have to have the fluid around my knee extracted?

After injuring my knee will I have to have the fluid around my knee extracted?I recently got into a small motorcycle accident. The motorcycle fell on my knee and left a really big bruise and it was swollen. That was three weeks ago and now I have lots of fluid around my knee, and where there is fluid my knee is numb. Will I have to have the fluid extracted by a doctor or will it go away on its own? I do not have health insurance so any advice on how to avoid going to the hospital would be best. Thanks!

As long as there is no sign of infection you can wait and let the fluid reabsorb on its own

You could try massaging the area to help the lymphatic system absorb the fluid. Is it painful? Ice will reduce swelling. Actipatch reduces swelling and compression (wrapping it up) and elevation will probably also help. I don't have health insurance either...this economy bites! Good luck.
