What could be the cause of this knee pain?


What could be the cause of this knee pain?My fiance has had severe knee pain for a while now we went to the doctor and he had an MRI done and it showed what the orthopedic said was a mass or legion he said that he may have Fibrous Cortical Defect which does not cause pain! His foot is swelling now and he has been off his leg and the pain does not stop. Has anyone had this problem? or should he get a biopsy?
