Knee Disorders: What is a good way to strengthen your knees?

What is a good way to strengthen your knees?I've been running a lot more recently and one of my knees has started to hurt a lot during and for awhile after I run. I plan on buying a knee brace to help support it, but is there any way to strengthen them so that it can take on my runs?

I'm already planning on buying new better running shoes so I don't need advice about that, thank you.
Also, I do realize that running is bad for your knees, I don't need any lectures on that.

Thanks in advance!

Swimming is the best. But Running will do fine. Just see that you start little by little. Not too much at once.

In general movement is getting some juice in your knee. The trick when you have knee problems is that you get movement without pressuring your knee. So obviously swimming is perfect for that.

You may apply olive oil to the knees during night and wash it after one hour and go to bed. Olive oil is best for those who use to run.

I had to have arthroscopic on both knees and was scheduled for a total knee replacement.
I started to exercise at the gym with the Dr suggestion. I use the machine as I sit and lift up the leg, and the next machine that I sit and pull down the leg with weights.
I cannot believe the change. I have stopped using a cane and occasionally a walker.
He did tell me to stop running although I feel so good that I just do a fast shuffle at times.

there is no quick way. it will take time.
Squats, leg press, lunges. Cross-train one day a week for 30-60 min with a bike or swimming.
Also, when you run, do different types of runs. Speed running, etc.. incorporate a day of 4x100 meter sprints. Of course, warm up by doing a light 2 mile jog, followed y stretching before you sprint.
Like I said, it takes time...running is dedication and a way of life...stick to it and your legs will be iron in a few years.

I have the same problem and find that a joint complex like Joint Juice helps a lot. It contains the lubricants needed for healthy joints and cartilage.

Happy Trails
