Sleep Better and Beat Back Pain with a Wedge Position Pillow
Article by Lynn Porter
Post ACL surgery should I be worried (knee crushed in car accident)?
my father got into a head on colision and he said that wen he had his surgery it wasnt as bad as he thought...Sad to hear, but I think you should consult an Orthopedic.Stop exercising. Consult your physician. Get as many medical opinions as you can. Write down all of your concerns and questions and don't be afraid to ask them of the physician.Go back to your dr and tell him what is happening. You might need an mri to see what is going on. Follow your dr advice. If you don't like what he has to say find another dr.
I just had mine scoped four years ago and it still hurts. It is a different kind of hurt, the pain still exists. My sister went through approximately the same thing with her knee. The main difference with her was that after the surgery and physical therapy, she went right back in to full force with playing sports. She never has had any major problems with it but she can tell that it is not the same as her other knee. In my personal opinion, I think you should continue exercising it, but dont go overboard. If you have med insurance, you should definately consult the doc on it though. Good luck with it, I sure hope it turns out for the best. There are several factors that one should consider and should have considered before and after surgery.
First, never go to a knee doctor without asking several people if they know that doctor and how well their operations worked. Im not kidding. Been there done that.
Secondly. it is more important than you think to do the theraputic excercises. Dont cheat and do them as often as you can. Strengthen your knee. Just don't push it beyond the limit or you will be back where you started.
Everyone I have talked to about knee injuries have all expressed a lack of confidence in that knee. This is true because of the pain that was felt. It hurts bad and any pain you have after healing robs you of confidence in that knee.
One fact you have to face is that in most damaged knees the knee will never be the same. Depending on your age and physical condition you may have to slow down in the activities that you do to conserve that knee.
I would say that you ought to seek out two highly recommended Orthopedic surgeons and compare their opinions. It is a very bad idea to try to find the cheapest doctor. I went to the best and it was well worth it. I wound up paying more out of pocket but like I say it was worth the extra cost. Please believe me not all orthopedic surgeons are equal. Talk to other people who have had knee problems and find out what they think about the doctors they went too.
Popping can be one of many things. It could signal that there is still loose joint material that is causing your knee to be in a bind. Many other things too.
Cartlage and joints are not easily repaired. I am told that ligaments can heal over night (if they are not torn apart) but that they hurt for a year or even longer after they heal.
Take it easy for a while but don't stop trying to do the therapy excercises unless you think you are damaging the knee.
See the (good) docs.I think its just fine. Although after the surgery the ACL isnt as strong as it was originally. You dont need another surgery for your knee, as for the wobbly feeling consult with a physiotherapist to strengthen your knees.
I'd also recommend that you sleep without the pillow below the knee. Sleeping without it wouldn't do any harm since it has already been a year, and any sleeping position(side lying, supine , prone)wouldn't stretch the ACL for it to be significantly harmedI suggest further rehab to strengthen your knee muscles some more. Then you should be OK. Go for intensive quads strengthening exercises.Although autografts have a lower rate of failure than allografts, I would start with a follow up to your surgeon. Any feelings of instability should be examined. However, since you have not been very active, your risk of rupture is quite low...hopefully all you might need is another course of PT. Yet, better to be safe than sorry.
